More than evolutionary ‘shortcuts’

Canine “social intelligence”, their  specific understanding of group dynamics and intricate pack interaction bears a very striking resemblance to that observed in humans.

Canines are inherently pack animals with a natural hierarchy. Strong, assertive natural leaders provide rules, rewards and punishments, direction, and security. 

The pack leader has been commonly referred to as an "alpha male"; however, it can also be a female. Leadership is earned and can be lost to a challenger. It is not inherited, appointed, or elected, and not guaranteed for life. 

Pack loyalty is strong and extends to every member of the pack, from the strongest to the weakest pack member...
