Humans and Canines:
More than evolutionary ‘shortcuts’
While human domestication of wolves likely began at least 100,000 years ago, more specific breed domestication of canines has been traced back to the Middle East and to East Asia to about 15,000 years ago.
Analysis of DNA has revealed that all modern dog breeds are descendants of three wolf types found in China and Mongolia, all with one single common gene pool. These prehistoric Chinese wolves were the most adaptable species of predatory pack animals, having a social adaptations that was highly compatible with humans.
In the Americas, evidence of dog domestication has been dated back to about 10.000 years ago...
A recent DNA study suggested additional migratory pathways in North America.
